Wearever Review and Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The Prime Life Fiber story started back in the early nineties, when Bob Deerin noticed that a flourishing industry in Europe for reusable incontinence underwear had no equivalent in the US market. Seeing an opportunity to provide a quality product at a lower overall cost, Bob and his partner in those early days started importing reusable incontinence undergarments from Europe.
Soon, however, the cost of doing so made it clear that these incontinence garments would need to be manufactured locally in order for the business to sustain itself. And so, in subcontracting the manufacturing to a Thomasville, North Carolina fabric company, Bob started down the path to Prime Life Fiber’s patented 3-layer Hydrex™ system for total protection.

I loved the quality and the feeling of these socks. They did not feel like I was wearing a "medical" accessory. In fact these would look very sexy with the proper boots.

Diabetic Socks - What Are They?
It's common for diabetics to suffer from nerve damage. This decrease in sensation increases their risk of injury. The increase for injury potential is especially true regarding the lower extremities (i.e. the feet). Circulatory issues make it more difficult for wounds to heal, and could ultimately lead to further medical issues, such as amputation or even, in the most dire situations, death.Needless to say, foot care is extremely important for diabetics, which is why diabetic socks come in handy.
Diabetic socks aren't like regular socks. Most regular cotton socks are tight fitting, lumpy, and can condone friction and lead to blisters and other foot injuries. Conversely, diabetic socks are made from a combination of cotton, acrylic, nylon, and elastic. Specifically, they're designed to be more loose fitting and cushion the feet better in order to fend off any potential injuries. The foot is also kept cooler and drier with diabetic socks. Essentially, diabetic socks are designed to be more comfortable and to keep the foot safe from injuries like blisters, calluses, cuts, bruises, and other scrapes that might be problematic for diabetics.
Are They Necessary?
The big question that many diabetics have regarding diabetic socks is whether or not they're truly necessary. The verdict from most medical professionals is that they do hold a number of advantages over conventional socks, especially in periods of exercise or extreme heat, as the socks are better at wicking away moisture and keeping feet dry. This minimizes the chances of foot fungus growth.
Does a diabetic need to wear a diabetic sock 24/7? Although it's perhaps the safest route to go, it's often unnecessary to wear them at all times. In fact, many diabetics just wear them for more strenuous activities.
Most medical professionals provide several tips and suggestions for diabetic patients wearing socks - whether they are diabetic or conventional socks:
  • Make sure they are comfortable and won't irritate the foot.
  • Always wear a white sock. This makes it much easier for diabetics to detect any injuries or bleeding. (Remember, diabetics often have decreased sensitivity and may be unaware of injuries.)
  • Foot inspections should be frequently conducted.
  • Diabetics should never go barefoot or wear sandals or flip flops without any type of socks, especially during times of more rigorous activity.
  • A comfortable pair of shoes is just as essential as comfortable socks.
